Patrick Higgins began playing the viola when he was a child. He continued to play the viola throughout his school years and received his degree in Viola Performance from The Ohio State University. After that he played in numerous sessional orchestras throughout the midwest. He then met master violinmaker Jules Azzi in Cincinnati. He started out going in once or twice a week to learn a few skills in the luthier trade. He apprenticed for 3 years, learning the trade, working on some of the best instruments in the world, such as Amati and Stradivarius and many others. After his apprenticeship he began to hone his skills in some other shops and after a few years decided to open his own shop. Since then, he has been developing his instruments, always trying to find a better sound. His shop is currently located in the Greater Cincinnati area where he has clients in the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music (CCM), and many other musicians from all walks of life.
